In September – October next year, I’ll be going to Peru with a group of 20-30 fundraisers, to trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and raise money for MND Scotland.
MNDS is the only charity in Scotland providing care, support and information for people affected by Motor Neurone Disease. MND affects the ability to walk, talk, swallow and eventually breathe. Life expectancy is just 14 months from diagnosis.
There is no known cause, no known cure, and it will always kill you.
This is the first time that MND Scotland have done a bespoke overseas trek. We’ve had numerous fundraisers take part in open challenges before, but this is the first time that it’s been just us. Those who have already signed up are a mixture of seasoned fundraisers and those not so experienced.
It’s not a holiday. And I don’t think any of us are expecting it to be a simple holiday in the sun – it’s rated as challenging by the tour company, we’re probably going to need to train, and that’s before we’ve thought about things like altitude…
Anyway. I’ll be posting here, probably getting others to post too, and hopefully this space can act as a hub for the group, who are coming from all over Scotland.
T- 11.5 months…
